Day 1: June 23

The Tuesday that just kept going. Left Australia 10:15am on Tuesday 23. Arrived Vancouver 6:45am Tuesday 23.

Check-in and flight over were relatively incident-free. The eight of us were spread across the plane. Wayne and I were in aisle seats four rows apart. None of us really slept which made for an interesting first day.

Our lovely AirBnB host gave us an early check-in which was a life-saver. We ubered (needed 3 to fit all the bags) from the airport and despite warnings of ‘you won’t sleep tonight’ from Wayne, I went for a sleep straight away. Chicken and bread rolls were obtained on a reconnaissance mission of the area (which I slept through), the girls had a sleep, the boys pushed through, and we headed to the train station for our first adventure.

If you choose to accept it! Reconnaissance mission.
Heading to train station

First stop – Waterfront and the Vancouver Lookout

As our team members who hadn’t slept were beginning to struggle, I suggested hitting the bar. Beer always helps. Several beers and sangrias later, we headed back to the house.

A walk to the bottle-o, meeting the neighbour, Tan and his goldfish, and a few more beers. An order of pizza, a few shared stories, Wayne falling asleep mid-one of my stories (his eyes literally rolled back in his head) and an early night to conclude our first day.
