Days 11 and 12

July 3: Orca sighting fail

Tried our best to see orcas today but it was not to be.

Relatively quiet day- watched Australia lose the soccer, packed our bags and spent a lot of time looking for whales and orcas.

Started the day watching Australia play with some of us indulging in a Bloody Mary.
It was cake morning – a huge selection to choose from. I chose Black Forest. Wayne chose Mud-cake – we did remind him of past troubles.

We saw some whales and porpoises in the afternoon but we really wanted to tick off orcas.

Boys had their binoculars but no luck
Danny desperately searchimg
Just saw two birds on the other side of the ship!
Tried on the top deck
Tried on the balcony

It was not to be. No orca sighting for this group.

July 4 – Driving Canada begins. Whistler here we come.

Early morning breakfast and off the ship. How will we survive without our meals being available 24/7, our beds being made and our rooms being cleaned daily?

We were disembarked very quickly and caught the train to the airport to pick up the cars. Danny and Mark took the first legs. Car 1 got there relatively smoothly. Car 2 had a few minor hiccups – nearly collected some cyclists and nearly hit by a couple of other cars.

Car 1 driver – confident but established a name for making sudden changes in the route

We stopped for snacks at Squamish with a pie costing $12. Most expensive snack break on record.

Dave took over car 2 and Wayne remained chief navigator in car 1. There has been a request by car 2 for more notice when turning or veering from the main route.

We arrived in Whistler to find that 5 rooms have been booked and paid for (only 4 couples). Must have thought we were going to collect some friends on the ship.

Whistler Village – glacier water feeds the stream.
Olympic rings – took us awhile to find these.
Thank goodness for the flag, tour leader, Donna. It keeps our group together.
I love this shot of Madonna.
In an Irish pub so have to have a Guinness. Should have been wearing my Guinness shirt.
Beef and Guinness pie was a popular choice.
Mr Peabody
High finances – swings and roundabouts!
