Day 17 – The big Beehive Hike

All of us except Donna headed back to Lake Louise. As we were driving there, Danny throws in a bit of personification, ‘The mountains look angry this morning.’

We were there at the shuttles, ready to go by 8am.

Let the walk begin! All fresh as a daisy.

The Beehive was the walk we started training for back in 2019 when we were coming to Canada in 2020. It was also very big on Mark’s bucket list and something Donna would love to have completed.

This time, no training, Wayne’s vertigo, my 50% lung capacity and not all participants fully committed.

Just a slight elevation and already beautiful views.
What a view! I was already puffing and huffing – recovering from a head cold and attempting this walk – madness!

Several times, I nearly gave up but my supportive team kept me going. I nearly gave in 300m before the first stop.

First stop: Mirror Lake with the Beehive in the background. We were climbing to the top of that.
Waterfall before the tea house.

Next stop was the tea house at Angus Lake. This was where I was going to stop and wait however it would have meant the team had to reverse rather than loop the walk. Onward!

We were about to walk around the lake and across the snow at the back of this photo.
We can do this!
Some snowballs were hurled at the leader here. I think one hit its mark!
Photo from the snow!
Me really thinking, ‘What the heck am I doing?’ My heart felt it was bursting from my chest.
Wayne being helped around the rock. The drop behind him was significant!
Halfway up the switchbacks and this was the view!
We made it to the top!
David and Jo
Madonna and Danny walked further out and snapped a few more great pictures.
This was as far as Wayne could be enticed.
Oreo celebration.
The pose says it all!
Even this guy was impressed.

Oreo celebration and time to commence the walk down.

Mirror Lake and Lake Louise
The Fairmont
Every time he gets in a bus – asleep in five minutes.
Jo found the two things that were ‘unfindable’ in Canada – ginger beer (Mark) and garlic bread (Wayne).

We arrived home to a beautiful home-cooked meal by Donna and settled in for the afternoon – hot tub, a few drinks and nibblies.

‘Veranda’ drinks. A bespoke day!
