Days 20 and 21

Day 20 – Calgary Stampede

What a day! So glad we got to experience the stampede.

The fun began when we all donned our Dollarama hats ($4 each).

Jo started the funny shots.

We arrived early and spent some time sampling the food and drinks.

Our seats were in the sun to begin with but once the shade hit, the experience just got better and better.

Each winner received $50 000 and the fireworks went off.
Met this random who once played rugby in Sydney. Took off his overalls to show us his budgie smugglers.
Wayne nearly bought this outfit. Sales gal was disappointed.

The local was shut (and very dodgy) so we came home and ordered pizza. A great day!

Day 21 July 13 – exploring Calgary

We caught Ubers to the city and went up the Observatory Tower.

All on the glass floor – Wayne not quite!
Look at this model, lounging on the glass floor!
That is unadulterated fear as I lay on the glass floor. Couldn’t look down.

Had some lunch and headed to the zoo. We had some animals to still see, including penguins, polar bear, grizzly bear, a moose, caribou and a bison. Danny also wanted to see the the gorillas.

Penguins – check!
Mountain goat – check!
Caribou – check!
Polar bear – sleeping. It was very hot!
Moose – check!
Grey wolf – was the coyote we saw really a grey wolf? Madonna and Danny looked it up and we think our one was definitely a coyote!
Musk ox – looks like a bison!
Grizzly bear – check!

We then hit the African section.

Gorilla – check!
Hippo – bonus!
Tortoise!
Giraffes
Hogs
Porcupine

Madonna and Danny also made it into the Asian section.

Tiger as proof they got there.

We came back to the house and the boys wandered down to the local saloon for a drink. It is never one drink. Next minute, a call, ‘Did we want to come down and join them for dinner and drinks?’

Was one of the best nights. Great waitress, great food, lots of drinks and all reasonably priced!

Jo and I talking to her kindy kids in Mapoon!
The Stonegate Pub – you surprised us!

We finished the day in the back yard – still daylight after 9pm. Wayne began one of story telling sessions and had himself (and us) in stitches.
